Finding Kindness
Some lovely thoughts from my mother...
My belief was that kindness
was the territory of the timid
belied by their martyrdom.
My belief was that kindness
was the tool of the rich
to flaunt their superiority.
My belief was that kindness
was a prescribed social nicety.
Turns out - I was wrong.
The Dalai Lama says,
My religion is kindness.
It was the kindness of strangers
that started it.
Random acts and sweet surprises
that made me realize
The world's machinations are
greased by generosity.
Turns out - that to realize a truth
at times it needs to be
out of context.
The Dalai Lama says,
My religion is kindness.
Then it was the self-view
that cemented it.
Discovering that kindness for oneself
can be the most difficult
for this North American soul.
Kindness that cuts through contempt
to provide warm relief and release.
Turns out - that repeated applications of kindness
gentles the mind.
The Dalai Lama says,
My religion is kindness.
Turns out -
Kindness is a force
and
Peace is it's twin.
Turns out -
Kindness creates potential
for love of ourselves
and
love by others.
Turns out -
Kindness is a necessity
on the road to freedom.
The Dalai Lama says,
My religion is kindness.
